ABOUT THE RIDGEWAY

Official name: The Ridgeway National Trail
Length: 139km
Start point: Overton Hill, near Avebury (Wiltshire)
End point: Ivinghoe Beacon (Buckinghamshire)
Opening year: 1973
History: Used as a high-level route between the West Country and the Wash for at least 5000 years
Points of interest: Silbury Hill, Avebury stone circles, Hackpen White Horse, Barbury Castle, Liddington CastleWayland's Smithy, Uffington Castle, Uffington White Horse, Segsbury CampWhiteleaf Cross, Grim's DitchAston Rowant Nature Reserve,
 Chequers,  Grand Union Canal, Ivinghoe Beacon
Notable wildlife: Red Kite, Chalkhill Blue butterfly
Unique flora: Chiltern Gentian (Gentianella germanica)
We also hope to see: Crop circles


We aim to complete the walk in eight days, carrying everything we need to eat, drink, and sleep.
